Flow monitoring in a forest research project, Tapio

We implemented the flow measurements as a complete service in two study sites for the TurVi project during the summer of 2022.

In the TurVI project of Tapio, Luke, SYKE and Metsäkeskus, drainage practices are improved. In the project, safeguarding wood production in peatland forests, water protection, and mitigation of climate change and adaptation to it are combined in a sustainable way. The effect of ditches of different depths on the loading of water bodies and the release of greenhouse gases will be tested at the pilot sites established in the project.

The goal is to reduce harmful effects on waterways and promote carbon sequestration with shallower ditches than current recommendations. As a result of the project, new methods of treating peatland forests and guidelines for site-specific drainage planning and implementation will be created.
